AOCS Announces Award Winners
The AOCS Recognition Program honors those individuals and teams who have taken the industry to the next level, who have advanced the quality and depth of the profession, and who have leveraged their knowledge for the benefit of the Society. AOCS awards range from long-time service and scientific achievement (including technical expertise) to publications and student research.
AOCS is pleased to announce the following awards, all of which will be presented at the 104th AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo:
Inform Free Features
Consumer concerns about the safety of traditional preservatives used in creams, lotions, and other personal care products have created a substantial market for “natural” preservatives derived from plant sources. There are many definitions of “natural”; whether natural preservatives are safer than their traditional counterparts is still under debate. Read about the “preservative wars” in this month’s first free article from Inform, the AOCS member magazine.
The second free article is an excerpt from February’s Biotechnology News department. It details work being conducted by CSIRO researchers, who recently published results showing that the long-chain omega-3 fatty acid DHA can be produced in land plants in commercially valuable quantities.
AAOCS Announces New Award
The Australasian Section of AOCS (AAOCS) is now offering an award for Scientific Excellence in Lipid Research.
Eligible candidates must be a member of the AAOCS and have made a significant contribution in basic or applied research. That work must either have had a significant effect on advances in the discipline or hold substantial promise for its effect in the near future.
The nomination deadline is May 17, 2013. (Self-nominations are welcome.)
