Did you know that AOCS LPP (Laboratory Proficiency Program) has a Fumonisin series?
Fumonisins are environmental toxins produced by certain species
of the Fusarium molds. These toxins have been found worldwide. Fumonisins
B1, B2, and B3 are
the major fumonisins produced in nature. Fumonisin B1, the most prevalent in corn, interferes with
sphingolipid metabolism and has been implicated in diseases including cancers
and organ lesions. Regulatory agencies around the world have specified
maximum levels for fumonisins in human foods and in animal feeds, and testing
is critical for laboratories at every stage of sales and production.
The AOCS Fumonisin series includes 6 corn meal samples
spiked with unspecified levels of fumonisin toxins. Analysts test for
fumonisins B1, B2, and B3 using their choice
of method. Superior performance in this series provides assurance to your
stakeholders, customers and regulators – and gains you the international recognition
that you deserve.
Enrollment for series Fumonisin is available now. Deadline to enroll in all 3 quarters is August 20, 2021. Analysts who
participate in all quarters of the series may apply to be an Approved Chemist.
Approval is earned by superior performance during the previous LPP year.
Laboratories with Approved Chemists are featured in the AOCS Recommended Lab Directory.
