AOCS Technical Services News
Lab Proficiency Program
The first enrollment deadline for the 2013-2014 AOCS Laboratory Proficiency Program (LPP) is May 20th. Please submit completed enrollment forms with payment by May 20th to ensure your participation in all 4 rounds of testing.

Approved Chemist Program
Approved Chemist applications are now available for participants in the Laboratory Proficiency Program. Participants can also check interim ranking and reports to see if they qualify by logging into their account.

AAOCS Division Announces New Award
The Australasian Section of AOCS (AAOCS) is now offering an award for Scientific Excellence in Lipid Research.

Eligible candidates must be a member of the AAOCS and have made a significant contribution in basic or applied research. That work must either have had a significant effect on advances in the discipline or hold substantial promise for its effect in the near future.

The nomination deadline is May 17, 2013.

Have You Heard...?
  • James (Jim) E. Willits, Chairman of the Board for Desmet Ballestra North America, retired last month after serving nine years in the Oil & Fats Division of the Desmet Ballestra group. Willits has been an active participant in AOCS since he joined in 1979, serving for many years as an officer in the Processing Division and also as a member of various committees.
  • AOCS member Mary Kay Krogull was hired to be president of the US Food Division of Eurofins Scientific in March 2013. She will lead the strategic development and scientific oversight of the North American Eurofins Food Testing operations.
  • Former AOCS President Jim Daun received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in March. He was nominated for this recognition by the Canola Council of Canada, who cited his work in establishing the identity of canola and in establishing methods to measure canola quantity.
  • Rachel Burton has joined MARC-IV Consulting, as a senior associate. She is the founder and has served as research director at Piedmont Biofuels, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, USA. In her new position, Burton is continuing her research efforts in new biobased materials.
  • IFT has announced the list of nominations for Fellows, which includes AOCS members Lekh Juneja and Gary List.
  • AarhusKarlshamn USA Inc. appointed Terrence “Terry” Thomas as President of the company.
