American and European Standards Organizations agree to collaborate on aligning standards to facilitate trade between EU and USA 
The European Standards Organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) agreed that they will maintain and intensify their collaboration with a view to aligning their standards, which is necessary in order to facilitate trade in both goods and services between Europe and the USA. Anthraquinone, used in Food Packaging
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has withdrawn its recommendation for the use of anthraquinone in the manufacture of paper intended for food contact. Read BfR opinion No. 005/2013 (.pdf)

Solazyme and Mitsui to develop tailored algal oils
Solazyme, Inc. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. have announced that they have entered into a $20 million multi-year agreement to jointly develop a suite of triglyceride oils for use primarily in the oleochemical industry.
